Best Webcam Settings for Video Calls
If you want a quick win: 1080p @ 30fps, steady lighting, fixed white balance, gentle sharpening.
Resolution & Framerate
- 1080p gives a clean look without crushing bandwidth
- 30fps feels natural; 60fps helps only with fast motion and good light
Exposure & White Balance
- Auto exposure is fine in stable light; lock it if you can
- Fix white balance when your light doesn't change (prevents color shifts mid-call)
Compression & Bandwidth
- Call apps adapt quality to your upload speed
- If calls look blocky, reduce background movement, close downloads, and prefer wired Ethernet
Testing Workflow
- Set lighting → choose 1080p/30 → lock WB
- Join a test call from a second device
- Change one setting at a time and keep what improves clarity
