Fix Webcam Not Working on Windows 10/11
Follow these steps in order. Test after each step using the “Start Test” button above.
1) Check Windows Camera Privacy
- Open Settings → Privacy & security → Camera
- Turn on Camera access and Let apps access your camera
- Under Let desktop apps access your camera, allow apps like Zoom/Teams
Also check Microphone permissions in the same menu if your app needs audio.
2) Close Conflicting Apps
Only one app can use your camera at a time.
- Quit Zoom/Teams/Discord/OBS/Camera app
- In Task Manager, end any leftover processes using the camera
3) Select the Right Device
In your calling app and on this page, pick the correct device from the Camera dropdown.
USB webcams often show as HD Webcam or USB Camera.
4) Update or Reinstall Drivers
- Right-click Start → Device Manager → Cameras
- Right-click your webcam → Update driver
- If it still fails: Uninstall device → Reboot (Windows reinstalls a fresh driver)
5) Try a Different USB Port / Cable
- Prefer a direct USB 3 port
- Avoid unpowered hubs
- Reseat the connector; try another cable if detachable
6) Reset App Permissions & Cache
- Settings → Apps → Installed apps → (Zoom/Teams/Chrome) → Reset or Repair
- Sign out/in of the app and try again
7) Antivirus / Privacy Tools
Temporarily disable “webcam shield” features; re-enable after testing.
